I cried the first time I met Kahu Pomaika’i….

The short version of why this woman is so wonderful, and why you owe it to yourself to just speak to her should you be considering a wedding in Hawai’i:

1) She is truly a loving and spiritual person, connected to the islands, and respectful of all that makes up the world.

2) She will discuss at length with you the ideas/style of her Hawaiian ceremonies, and tailor them to your specific needs (religious, spiritual, etc.) to create the most perfect and memorable ceremony you could ever imagine.

3) The love she brings to your ceremony is true and heart-felt,  and will touch you, your family,   and your guests both during and after your ceremony.

The long version of how we came to know Kahu Pomaika’i and why our ceremony was so amazing:

Our wedding coordinator found Kahu Pomaika’i and sent us her contact information.  The minute I read her website descriptions, I knew I wanted to meet her.  We met three days before our wedding date to discuss the ceremony, as well as to give her some background on the both of us.  After she finished telling us about what she was planning to use/say during the ceremony, I was  in tears.  It was like she had read my mind on what I wanted for my wedding my entire life.

On the day of our wedding, Kahu Pomaika’i took me through a grounding exercise for me to release my tension, she blessed our leis as well as the land, and conducted our ceremony with such grace and poise, yet filled with so much love, that I was crying throughout the entire ceremony.  Kahu Pomaika’i's message to us touched all of our guests, and they could not stop talking about the things that she said, and the effect it had on them.  My father, a non-native speaker of English, said that her message was so meaningful, and also so easy to understand even for him.  Her delivery was flawless, the things she brought to the ceremony priceless.

When speaking to Kahu Pomaika’i, I truly felt that the Akua had brought us together for a specific reason.  After our ceremony, talking to Kahu Pomaika’i, it was as if we were talking to someone we had known for years.  She truly is an amazing woman, and I cannot put into words how grateful we are to her for giving us such an amazing gift…a wedding ceremony that we will remember forever.

If you are considering a ceremony in Hawai’i, please do yourself a favor and just meet Kahu Pomaika’i.  If anything, you will  walk away with an understanding of her, the islands of Hawai’i, and the true meaning of “aloha.”

If you are looking for an exquisite wedding ceremony that will leave everyone without a dry eye then look no further than Kahu Pomaika’i. My husband who is Hawaiian and I were married in Honolulu at the Hale Koa on 2/12/2011. We live in Las Vegas and were finding it hard to find someone who could capture just the feeling we wanted to have conveyed with our ceremony. I didn’t want some cookie cutter five minute wedding ceremony. We wanted something meaningful and traditionally Hawaiian.

I scoured every web page that I could think of to find what I was looking for. I just by miracle happened to stumble upon Kahu Pomaika’i's name. I found her site and read it. Within the first few minutes of reading….. I knew she was the one. I instantly felt connected to her and knew that she would know exactly what my husband and I would want. I emailed her and got a response very quickly.  She did a phone consultation with us and spent the next hour and a half learning about us as a couple and what we wanted in our ceremony. She then custom tailored a ceremony just for us weaving in all the Hawaiian traditions that we wanted to include. She explained in detail every step of the ceremony and took notes as to where our personal things would go. We opted for both written vows by ourselves as well as beautiful traditional vows. Her son blew the conch shell for us as well. We did the maile lei exchange as well as the HA (breath) ceremony to include both our families.

Kahu Pomaika’i is simply wonderful. Everyone couldn’t stop talking about how they had never been to such a beautiful ceremony. They all commented on how the Hawaiian traditions and words spoken were so clearly defined by her that everyone could understood the meaning behind them. Her true warmth, compassion and genuine love for what she does shines through in every aspect of the ceremony she creates. It was in one word : PERFECT.  If you want an unforgettable ceremony that you will cherish for the rest of your life then do yourself a favor and book Kahu Pomaika’i.

Kahu Pomaika’i conducts gorgeous wedding ceremonies in Hawaii as well as certain areas of the mainland U.S.  In addition she performs blessings, ho’oponopono ceremonies and lomilomi massage.

I have been fortunate enough to receive the latter three services.  I cannot recommend Kahu Pomaika’i enough.  She’s extremely calming and graceful, knowledgeable and intuitive, skilled and connected.

Kahu actually conducted a ho’oponopono for me on the island of Kauai in 2009; I had a fractured elbow and wrist and was in a good amount of pain, both physically and emotionally (many time the two are connected, as you probably know).  She led me into the calm Haena waters and chanted over me, praying for my healing.

I kid you not, I was healed instantly.  And I am not a hysterical personality, either, I assure you.  Spiritual as I am, I possess a healthy dose of rationality and skepticism.  Nonetheless, I went into the water with her in a lot of pain, and then … it was gone.  I really was healed.

I believe in Kahu Pomaika’i's gifts and talents and anybody lucky enough to obtain her for weddings, blessings or the ho’oponopono ceremony are fortunate indeed.

This review is long overdue. Kahu Pomaika’i married us in Honolulu in a beach side wedding.  I met her at a wedding expo, and I liked her calm demeanor and unique wedding ceremony offerings.  We wanted to do the Jewish tradition of stomping on the glass, and she was very willing to accommodate that.  She always returned my phone calls and emails quickly, and was never rushed on the phone.  She took the time to talk to both of us and make sure that all of our needs were met.  Her two sons accompanied her on the day of the wedding, and they were all dressed in Hawaiian styled attire.  One of her sons blew the conch shell beautifully and the other took pictures during the ceremony.  The ceremony was everything we hoped it would be and more–unique, meaningful and beautiful.

 

Note: Be aware that it is customary for the bride and groom to give the Kahu a haku lei as a gift on the day of the wedding.  We also decided to do the maile lei exchange ceremony, so we needed to get that as well.

We celebrated our 25th anniversary this year and had planned to travel to Hawaii and do a re-wowing ceremony with a local Kahu. We found Pomaika’i through her website and she immediately responded to our e-mail. During a nearly two hour Skype call, Pomaika’i focused on understanding  who we are and what we are looking for. Based on this input she decided on a specific location which would be a good energetic fit for us. We were quite impressed by this approach. She also helped us with finding the place for the Lai which we wanted to use during the ceremony. A few days before the ceremony we connected again with her and on the day of the ceremony we met at the agreed time with her on the selected place on the beach. It was as if we would have known each other for a long time. We immediately felt very comfortable. We really enjoyed the beautiful place and the many aspects of the ceremony including the assistance of her son. Everything felt very authentic, professional and at the same time caring. Our new wedding rings didn’t arrive in time and we were really amazed  when she surprised us with beautiful  rings from shells.

We can really recommend Kahu Pomaika’i for this special moments in the life of a couple. We will never forget our time with her.

Now that we are home and settling back into our routines I just wanted to write and tell you how very much we loved our ceremony.  It  was so special I can not even begin to put it into words.  I loved that it was so spiritual and incorporated so many Hawaiian aspects. We loved having your sons a part of it too.  They are so adorable and such gentleman. You reciting the Lord’s Prayer in Hawaiian was amazing. It brought tears to my eyes. It was one of those very rare and special moments that we will cherish for a lifetime.  Words are not adequate to thank you for this wonderful memory we will always cherish.

“We feel so blessed that Renee was our minister at our commitment ceremony 3/28/10 North Shore of Oahu. She was so wonderful and made the event extra special.  She talked to us before the ceremony, we live in Southern California, and wanted to make sure everything was the way we wanted it.
